A versatile recipe useful as a base for making cheese sauce or macaroni and cheese from scratch.
 
2 Tbs    butter or margarine (we recommend LAND O LAKES® Butter)  
2 Tbs    all-purpose flour  
1/4 tsp    salt  
1/8 tsp    ground white or black pepper  
2/3 cup    NESTLÉ® CARNATION® Evaporated Milk  
1/2 cup    water  
 
1 Melt butter in small saucepan. Stir in flour, salt and pepper.
2 Gradually add evaporated milk and water. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes just to a boil.
 
Servings: 4
Yield: 1 cup
